Rawlins to Riverside - July 8

Trying to learn from our experience of the troubling afternoon winds in Wyoming, we began biking from Rawlins at about 6:30 a.m.

It was calm for the first 24 miles, which included 13 miles on Interstate 80. We got off that big road and had 20 miles to Saratoga and it was a wind free ride. We stopped and had brunch and left at a little after 11 a.m. for the final 18 miles to Riverside, where we planned to stay.

Wouldn't you know it .. there was no wind there either! It was great.

Riding without wind, on a road with very little traffic and with temperatures in a comfortable range, Wyoming riding was great. In 1987, we were plagued by wind and rain along this stretch.
