102 miles, Breckenridge, Colo

We left Walden with the idea of making it to Green Mountain Reservoir, which we did. In 1987, that trip spanned 80 miles, but in the interim, the route has been rerouted over some less-trafficked roads that took us through some great areas, but also added about 20 miles. When it was all said and done, we rode 102 miles! Pretty impressive, eh?

We had a lot of downhill as part of that ride and on the two days before, we has only ridden about 50 miles, so we were jazzed up for a long day. But still, it was a long day. It was cold in the morning, but in the afternoon it started to get warm-- a preview of what is likely in store when we get out of the mountains.

As we got close to our campground, I worried that we would get there before we hit 100 miles. But once my odometer hit the century mark, I was instantly really ready to be done. We stayed next to the Green Mountain Reservoir, which was really low. The campground didn't have water, so we boiled some of the reservoir water and then drank it when it cooled. (I put the sealed bottles back in the lake to cool them quickly.)

Today, we had 35 miles into Breckenridge, where we're staying at Fireside Inn, which caters to bicyclists. (They will do our laundry for us and give us clothes to wear while things are being washed so that we can get everything clean at once.)

I'm not sure what we'll do on our day off, besides try to avoid spending too much money, since that seems to be the chief pastime in this town.
