Dubois to Lander - July 5

We continued a slow descent, which made for wonderful, and fast, riding. We left at 7 a.m. and arrived in Lander - 76 miles away -- at about 1 p.m. We ride through some barren country, including some red hills. The sky was hazy, with some smoke from area fires combining with actual clouds to keep the sun out of view for most of the day.

We're staying in the city park in Lander where it is free to camp for up to three days. There are several other cyclists here also.

During our 1987 trip we stayed in Lander at Ma's Boardinghouse, which was run by Patricia Focht, who dispensed kindness, hugs and cookies to a whole generation of cyclists. I learned that "Ma" died in 2000. She was originally from Iowa and was teacher who was also active in theater.

Tomorrow, we plan to ride to Jeffrey City.
