Newton to Eureka, Kan. - July 20

After a wonderful night's sleep in a bed at Marla's parents' house, we headed out into the hilly part of Kansas east of Newton. The hilly part wasn't so bad, but the wind right in our faces and the heat took its toll after the riding in the cool of the morning, which -- by the way -- ends at about 9 a.m.

Dad and I both agree that these hot days have been the hardest riding of the trip so far. It is just unrelenting, while also feeling somewhat dangerous when we are going through long stretches where there are no towns.

We made it to Eureka and are staying in another town park, right next to the pool. Tomorrow we plan to ride to Chanute, or possibly beyond.
