I was keenly anticipating the ride up to Togwotee Pass, which was billed as a 15-mile climb, a four-mile stretch of which was gravel/ dirt because of ongoing construction. When work is in progress, bicyclists are shuttled up that section, we had heard. Fortunately work was stopped for the July 4 holiday, so we got to ride the whole way up. It was steep in parts, but also had a lot of gradual climbing.
From the top we had a wonderful descent toward Dubois, aided for a while by the wind. However, when we got close to town, the wind switched and began to oppose us. The wind here is a fickle, unreliable friend.
We got into town in time for a parade, which featured fire trucks dousing spectators -- and I mean really letting them have it -- with their fire hoses. I hid behind a house to avoid getting sprayed.
We stayed at a nice KOA.
